The Indian Red Cross is a voluntary humanitarian organization having a network of over 700 branches throughout the country, providing relief in times of disasters/emergencies and promotes health & care of the vulnerable people and communities. It is a leading member of the largest independent humanitarian organization in the world, the International Red Cross & Red Crescent Movement.
The Mission of the Indian Red Cross is to inspire, encourage and initiate at all times all forms of humanitarian activities so that human suffering can be minimized and even prevented and thus contribute to creating more congenial climate for peace.
Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) was established in 1920 under the Indian Red Cross Society Parliament Act XV of 1920. The Act was last amended in 1992 and rules were framed in 1994.
The IRCS has 35 State / Union Territories Branches with more than 700 district and sub district branches.
Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu Branch derives its existence from the above IRCS Parliament Act XV of 1920.
His Excellency The Governor of Tamil Nadu is the President of Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu Branch.
His Excellency The Governor of Tamil Nadu in his capacity as the President of Indian Red Cross Society, Tamil Nadu Branch shall nominate the State Vice President for a term of two years.
The Managing Committee consisting of authorized Representatives from all District Branches of IRCS TN Branch, shall elect from amongst its Members, a Chairman, a Vice Chairman and a Honorary Treasurer for a period of three years. The General Secretary of IRCS TN Branch shall be appointed by the Managing Committee in its first meeting after its composition, for a term of three years.
All the four (Chairman, Vice Chairman, Hon. Treasurer and General Secretary of IRCS TN Branch) combined together shall be the Office Bearers of IRCS TN Branch.
The affairs of the IRCS TN Branch is managed by the above mentioned Office Bearers on the advice of the Managing Committee, Executive Committee and Finance Committee.
The General Secretary is at the helm of affairs of the IRCS TN Branch.
